Grocery Store Aisles and the Low-carb Lifestyle

We all know, if we are low-carb, that we should shop the perimeter (outer aisles) of the supermarket for real food. But when do we need to actually brave the inner aisles? Well, actually there are some great low-carb foods, pantry staples and helpful products that you can find in those scary inner aisles:

  • Canned seafood
  • Canned meat
  • Canned tomatoes
  • Konjac or shirataki noodles
  • Dill pickles
  • Sauerkraut
  • Olives
  • Sauces (Sriracha, BBQ sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, etc.)
  • Salad dressings
  • Mayonnaise
  • Coconut/avocado/olive oil
  • Ghee, lard
  • Vinegars
  • Jerky
  • Pork rinds
  • Bone broth and stocks
  • Cheese snacks, like Wisps, Parm Crisps, etc.
  • Dried herbs and spices
  • Non-caloric sweeteners (stevia, monk fruit, inulin, allulose, etc.)
  • Non-caloric flavoured syrups
  • Electrolytes
  • Collagen
  • Whey protein powder
  • Egg white powder
  • Almond or coconut flour
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Nut butters
  • Dark chocolate
  • Cocoa powder
  • Sugar-free Jello (jelly)
  • Unflavoured gelatin packets (e.g., Knox, Dr. Oetker, etc.; Note: For bulk gelatin, buy Great Lakes or other brands online)
  • Almond/coconut/macadamia milk (in asceptic packaging, e.g., Tetra Paks)
  • Sparkling water
  • Diet sodas
  • Vitamins/Minerals

Always read the labels of any product that contains more than one ingredient. Have the mindset that sugar in some form and seed oils are in almost EVERYTHING!
